Where expertise meets the frontline

Security features built for real document checks.

OVD Kinegram’s expertise meets the frontline whenever a police officer, border guard, forensic examiner or other document professional must decide whether an identity document is authentic.

01

Operational environments

Passports, identity cards, residence permits, driving licences and other government credentials are encountered in border controls, police checks, immigration procedures and document examination.

02

Seconds to decide

Officers often have only seconds to assess documents from many different issuing countries, not always with specialist equipment and not always under ideal conditions.

03

First-line security

DOVIDs play a critical role because their visual effects must be not only difficult to reproduce, but also clear, distinctive and easy to verify by the human eye.

The operational challenge

Not just presence. Behaviour.

The main frontline challenge is to recognise deviations from genuine documents quickly and reliably. Knowing that a document contains a DOVID is not enough. The examiner must know what optical effects the genuine DOVID should exhibit, how to observe them by changing the viewing angle, and what to look for when something warrants closer attention.

Counterfeiters may not need to reproduce a feature perfectly. An imitation may only need to look sufficiently convincing during a brief inspection. This is why frontline authentication depends on security features that combine a high barrier to counterfeiting with intuitive, precise, memorable and readily verifiable optical effects.

KINEGRAM technology

Designed to give the examiner something specific to verify.

During visual document examination, KINEGRAM elements provide controlled optical behaviour: directed movement, transformations, image flips, changes in contrast and other effects visible when the document is tilted or rotated.

What can mislead an examiner

A counterfeit optical element may appear diffractive at first glance and may seem to change when tilted. If the check is limited to the presence of a shiny or holographic-looking element, it can create false confidence.

What a genuine KINEGRAM should provide

Professional verification looks for the expected behaviour of the genuine feature: sharply defined, precisely directed optical effects that are deliberately controlled and understandable to trained frontline professionals.

Commercial holographic imitation

Commercially accessible holographic or dot-matrix technologies can reproduce certain impressions, but they cannot convincingly create the highly precise, directed effects of protected KINEGRAM elements.

Technology and training together

The best feature is not only difficult to imitate, but also easy for a trained officer to verify. OVD Kinegram supports authorities with tailored training, sample documents, explanatory material and counterfeit-analysis support.

Visual security in motion

An amazing journey through secure authentication.

The submitted video material is integrated as a looping visual layer for the dedicated partner section. It supports the positioning of OVD Kinegram as a specialist technology provider for identity protection and secure government documents.

The visual language should remain close to the frontline message: protect identities, facilitate secure authentication and help officers verify documents more reliably.

From technology to practical examination

Clear optical behaviour supports clearer decisions.

Frontline officers do not need a microscope to examine DOVID elements. The visible behaviour of the feature can be checked by deliberately tilting and observing the document.

01

Directed movement

Fine-line movement and other controlled effects help the examiner see whether the feature behaves as expected, rather than relying only on a general impression.

02

Transformations and image flips

Transformation effects, motif changes and image flips give examiners immediate and understandable visual information during a first-line check.

03

Memorable verification

Intuitive and memorable optical effects reduce the burden on officers who must work with many different documents under time pressure.

Protecting identities is our mission. Facilitating secure authentication is our expertise.

OVD Kinegram perspective for FRONTLINERS

FRONTLINERS 2026 workshop

Hands-on verification of First Line Security Features of DOVIDs.

The proposed intervention focuses on the “must know” verification of First Line Security Features of DOVIDs. The format is planned as a dedicated workshop for a selected audience, with a preferred duration of 20–35 minutes.

The proposed audience includes border police, police officers, document experts, forensic specialists, institutional representatives and mixed operational participants.

Lessons for frontliners

Three practical takeaways for first-line checks.

For frontline professionals, the most effective security feature is one that combines a high technological barrier to reproduction with an unmistakable method of verification.

01

Notice the effects, not merely the DOVID.

The presence of a DOVID is not proof of authenticity. Check its optical effects, including precise movements, transformations, virtual 3D effects or image flips.

02

Observe under different viewing angles.

Tilt the document deliberately, change the viewing angle and observe the DOVID more closely. The behaviour matters.

03

Know a few decisive effects well.

Prioritise key Level 1 characteristics of the documents and DOVIDs most frequently encountered in your operational environment.

Technology and human expertise

Technology supports the human eye. Judgement gives it context.

Well-designed security features give examiners a reliable physical reference. Digital and machine-based authentication can complement checks, while forensic examination can go deeper using specialist equipment and knowledge.

The strongest approach is layered: technology supports the human eye, and human expertise interprets the result. Clear Level 1 features, appropriate tools and professional training should reinforce one another.

Looking ahead

More complex documents. More sophisticated counterfeits.

Frontline professionals are likely to face increasingly sophisticated counterfeits as imaging, printing and digital tools become more accessible. At the same time, identity ecosystems are becoming more complex and hybrid.

That makes advanced DOVIDs and continuous training more important: strong security features must remain highly resistant to reproduction while being intuitive and unambiguous for frontline verification.
