With 20 years of experience in law enforcement, Vasileios Makris serves as a Sergeant with the Hellenic Police, specialising in travel document examination at the Document Examination Office of the Athens International Airport Policing Directorate.

A second-line document expert since 2010, he has spent more than a decade working at one of Europe’s most demanding border control environments, tackling increasingly sophisticated document fraud and identity abuse.

Since 2017, he has also contributed to the Frontex Reference Manual Project as an ALDO/SLDE expert, helping develop operational guidance used by border authorities across Europe.

At FRONTLINERS 2026, Vasileios will share practical experience from the operational frontline of document examination, offering insights shaped by years of real-world casework and international cooperation.
